Some thoughts on Egypt, and the loss of American credibility and influence in the middle east

The events sweeping across the middle east, and currently focused in Egypt, require a few words.

First, I want to remind our citizens that Egypt has been a reliable destination for those "rendered," more precisely kidnapped, by our country. In Egypt they are tortured. This started in the Clinton admin, as far as I can tell. The last incident was the guy the CIA kidnapped in Italy during the Bush Admin. But this is beside the point.

The point is not just what Mubarak "has done for us as a reliable ally," as our president, sec of state, and the corporate press keep harping on, but that our dictator's Security Forces and Police have also been employing these same tactics of arbitrary arrest, torture, and prolonged detentions on their own people who speak freely and honestly, as well as those who are perceived as real opponents of Mubarak's dictatorship.

These are exactly the same powers our government recently claimed under Bush, and these powers have been confirmed by precedent through Obama's acceptance of these crimes, by letting them stand. These are now presidential powers by precedent. Our government has freely exercised the power to arbitrary arrest, torture, and impose prolonged detentions in foreign countries, or through our foreign dictators, since we embarked on our first imperial war in 1898.

We killed the Phillipinos without mercy or limit, and we or our proxies have continued to exercise these powers since that time. Now I want you all to know that the things-and the people who do these things-cannot be kept "offshore" where we employ them. All of the horrid things that we do to other people will find their way here. Note our free use of electrical torture devices, the "Tazer," which we have put into our "public servants" hands. Outrageous.

Torture has persisted in Egypt with our blessings since Mubarak took power to the present, through both Dem and Repug admins. Notice that the tanks in the streets are American-made, as are the APCs, and so too are the jets flying overhead. Ok, we're the financer, armorer, and provider of political cover for Mubarak's brutal dictatorship.

Now let's look at what H Clinton has said about this situation. She says she does not want Egypt to end up like Iran. Well, the last I saw our solution for Iran's political leadership was the Shah, another bloody dictator that we gunned up, and gave political cover to. He too killed and tortured any of his own people who had the audacity to speak freely or oppose his foreign-supported (US) dictatorship. We have no room to speak honestly about democratic governments in the middle east, where our legacy is one of dictatorships and authoritarian regimes.

Hillary's speaking to the problem of Iranian leadership in the context of Egypt totally misses the point. The lessons from Iran are that when a people can finally overthrow their client dictator, #1> They are going to hate you, #2> Their political leadership is going to swing to an extreme, and #3> This period of post-colonial extremity and instability can last up to 50 years after the foreign dictator is overthrown. These are the lessons we can learn from Iran, and they all argue against supporting foreign dictators, not their perpetuation, as is the goal of Clinton, the American foreign policy establishment, and the entirety of the Corporate Press's arguments.

The president is talking out of both sides of his mouth, as usual. The admin has been singing the praises of the cooperation and service Mubarak's Dictatorship has "rendered" to America. All of sudden Obama is working for "core values." This "value" thing just started today, and I'll bet that when we read the actual wiki-leaks documents that I hope will eventually emerge, we will see that Obama is actively looking for an Egyptian general he can support who will continue Mubarak's policies, and for who we will support the use of violence to establish and maintain our next chosen Dictator's control of the Egyptian people and their foreign policy, if at all possible.

This then raises the question of what "America" has Mubarak "provided service" for?

This is the America of the Oil Companies and other middle-eastern "interests" who have bribed our Democratic Republic into Submission. These are the criminals who have hijacked our government, and have used our power to prop up criminal governments. Obama is now calling for "moderation," and has not repudiated our dictatorship, which is what the simple decency of acting upon our Constitutional principals would have demanded 30 years, or 30 minutes ago. These principals are timeless, and Obama has never held them.

This delay of regime change will preserve Mubarak in power, which means that he will have time to employ his security forces to kill his opponents and intimidate his oppponents, as we try to line up our next dictator who will rule Egypt in our interests.

No decent American can sit quietly as our corrupted government attempts to play the Egyptian situation to preserve our influence and maintain our ring of dictatorships around the middle-east. We are continuing to support dictatorships and authoritarian governments around the world, as well as in the middle east. But looking at the corporate news, it's no wonder that most American are completely uninformed.

As the Tunsian, Algerian, and finally the Egyptian situation unfolded, the American Corporate Press had no way to explain why the vast majority of the people in these countries were hitting the streets. If they actually explained that these were American-backed dictatorships, they would be breaking their long silence on reporting about the actual repressive and brutal natures of the regime our government supports around the world.
The corporate press's long failure to report the nature of these regimes, and our foreign policy around the world, makes it impossible for them to explain the nature of the resistance that exploded onto the streets of Egypt.

Thus we will be "surprised" when Pakistan blows up in utter chaos, some saudis blow up the "King," or it turns out that Iraq will join up with Iran as soon as they can get our asses out of there. Surprise!

What this all indicates is that our corporate press is as mortally wounded as are the democratic and republican parties That have fronted these criminal policies for the last 110 years. These criminal parties must be stopped, their bribes and money-laundering of vast sums of special interest money to their candidate must be stopped, and the local voting citizen's contribution must be much larger than the bribes of outside special interest. We MUST take our government back, not for any particular criminal policy (of which there are many), but to restore our own democratic principals and practices here.
A good deal of responsibility for the Dictator problem in Egypt, and the crimes Mubarak committed against his people, remember, his govt has literally tortured their people for the past 30 years, began in Washington. If we want to lead Egypt to democracy, we would be-well served to start here.

Obama is merely the latest representative of our corporate and special interest masters who have sacrificed our honor and principals in support of another criminal Dictator.

This is not going to end well for our "interests," meaning the criminals in our country who have twisted our government to commit crimes around the world. Obama should have responded to this crisis with actions and words based on our principals, not based on the "interests" of the criminals who bribe and manipulate our government. Their chickens are coming home to roost, and those who have used our government to steal from people around the world are going go pay a high price, as is our country generally, for allowing these criminals to take over our government. We've got as much of a problem here in Washington, as the people of Egypt have in Cario. It's the same problem.

If we want to stop the problems in Egypt and the middle east, as well as stop these bastards from looting our country and stripping it of all its resources here, we've got to clean the criminals out of Washington.

What surprises me is that the breakdown in our client criminal governments took off across the maghreb, and did not start in Pakistan.

Well, that gives us something to look forward to. What we have done in Egypt looks like a quiet tea party, compared to what I believe will happen as Pakistan continues to break down under the brutal pressure of our "interests." But Egypt getting out from under our dictator really complicates things for US policy in the middle east.

Iran has been rising in influence as we continue to destroy the credibility of our authority across the middle east. Iraq is now a natural ally of Iran, now that it is out from under the Sunni dictator Saddam. As our support of Israel has included a ring of Sunni dictators who have suppressed their people's political will, economic interests, and their general welfare, Iran has come to represent independence and resistance against foreign intervention in middle eastern domestic politics.

This has raised Iran's stature in the middle-east, and reached across the sunni-shia dispute, which has traditionally divided Islam. The disarray of our dictatorships in Egypt and of our puppet in Pakistan, the loss of legitimacy of the PLO, and the rise of Hezbolla into political leadership of lebannon has significantly and permanently changed the balance of power in the middle-east out of our favor. This trend has been rolling since '79, when the Iranians kicked our dictator, the shah, out of Iran, and it will continue unabated until Arabs control their own countries without the help of US supported "Kings" "Emirs," and "Sheiks."

Our loss of influence in the middle east is reaching a critical point. As our influence declines, that of Iran relatively increases.
I expect Israel and the US will look more closely at attacking Iran as they continue to rise as the dominant independent nation in the middle east. It would not surprise me if an Israeli sneak attack on Iran manages to reinvigorate the Iraq War by bringing in Iran.

I expect that you get my main theme: the era of foreign supported dictators & authortarian governments dominating the middle east is coming to an end. I find it distressing that we are getting caught holding the bag, while our mealy-mouthed politicians are trying to figure out how to maintain control of Egypt, and our corporate press maintains their 30 year long failure to honestly report the crimes our dictators and allies are committing in the middle east.
It's funny watching the corporate press stumble over their past lies and omissions while trying to make up new ones. Well it would be funny if was not such a long-term tragedy that is hearlding the end of US credibility and influence in the middle east.

Here's a few links to lists of corporate news articles, criticism of the corporate news articles, analysis of our middle eastern policies and the corrupt processes by which they are formed, and predictions of the bloody outcomes of these ethically bankrupt policies.

Anyway, I've been working hard on the trail guide, but I had to say a few words about what's really going on in the middle east and Egypt, though it's past 5 am, and I'm overwhelmed with work.
