On April 30, 2008 the sf chron reported that,
"The Government Accountability Office reported Tuesday that the White House's budget office, the Pentagon and other agencies had delayed or blocked efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency to list chemicals as carcinogens by requesting more research or more time to review the risks.
GAO officials also faulted the administration for setting new rules that keep secret any involvement by the White House or a federal agency in a decision about the risks of a chemical.
"In the risk assessment program, you don't want anyone but the scientists involved," John Stephenson, GAO's chief investigator for environmental programs, told lawmakers."
The report makes it clear that industry influences, corporate bribery, not only corrupts the political policy making process to damage our health and safety, but corporate corruption has penetrated and comprimised the collection and presentation of the fundamental scientific facts needed to make honest policy. Political bribery and corruption has been used to distort and suppress scientific data and scientists:
"Since President Bush took office in 2001, the White House has sought to take more control of a process that has long been led by EPA scientists, the report found. The Office of Management and Budget, the Defense Department, the Energy Department and even NASA have taken steps to influence risk assessments that could affect those agencies or hurt U.S. industries, the report said."
The political facts of life in our country is that this administration, like congress, the senate and our whole regulatory system has been throughly corrupted. Thanks to Congress and the President's gutting of the Consumer Product Safety Comission, we are currently suffering a flood of tainted products from China that has killed hundreds. Thanks to Congress and the President's Big Pharm Bribes, we have suffered under an FDA that has allowed a flood of dangerous drugs to kill thousands. In fact, we are suffering under a system that has been so throughly corrupted that the regulatory systems that are supposed to protect us are completely untrustworthy, and will remain so until our politicians are no longer the bribed tools of the industries we charged them to regulate.
The politicians dishonorable and traitorious dependence on corporate bribery has critically wounded our democracy, and presents a clear and present danger to the public health. Political corruption has grown so powerful that our political system is no longer democratic.
This is yet another example of how the massive amounts of corporate bribery, liberally distributed to both parties, has not just gutted our government's duty to regulate chemical safety, but highlights the fact that our political system has lost its democratic character. Instead, industry bribes to virtuall all of the presidential candidates, and everyone who has a snowball's chance of hell of winning a seat in congress or the senate assure that whoever's elected will continue to betray their duty to regulate commerece for the general welfare of our country. Corporate bribery has robbed our government of the ability to regulate the corporations who bribe them.
Drugs, air safety, food safety, pollution, highway safety, and the safety of every American has been compromised by the system of corporate bribery that runs our elections, parties, politicians and ultimately, our whole government.
There is only one fact you can rely on in today's political environment: every politician is lying to you. They are not elected by the people. They do not give a shit about you, except to decieve you into voting for them. After their election lies, they will trade your rights, health, wealth, welfare and safety in a hot second to their corporate masters for another round of bribes. The politicians are lying to you. They not protecting your rights, interests, or your safety, but in fact they have sold their authority over your rights, interests, and safety to the highest corporate bidders.
Let's be clear about how politics works: Politicians represent the interests of those who put them in office. Period. Our founders, wise to this fact, created a democracy.
Our present generation, in our apparently limitless ignorance, have allowed the politicians to trade dependence on the voters for corporate bribery. Our citizens have not waken up enough to correlate their politician's dependence on corporate bribery to win office with the loss of their democracy, their rights, their money, and their safety. Until our citizens recognize how and why they are getting screwed, they will continue to allow the corporations to bribe our politicians, and our politicians will continue to steal our rights, health, and wealth, and feed them to their corporate masters.
Until the politicians are cut off from their corporate bribers, and once again made dependent on the people, this country cannot be called a democracy, and our corporate politicians will continue to be a threat to the health, wealth, safety and rights of our citizens, if not the whole world.
To define what our polity actually is, we must combine the fact that all politicians represent the interests of those that put them into power, with the nature and character of the power our politicians wield. The combination of these two factors reveals the character of our polity.
Our corporate dominated process of forming political power, when combined with the unlimited nature of the political power our government claims to use as a tool of state, defines our government as a corporate fascist state.
Our corporate fascist character will continue until our citizens force our politicians to depend on the contributions of their local voters, rather than corporate bribes, to get elected. After restoring our democracy, we can work on reimposing constitutional restraints on all three branches of our government by convicting and punishing everyone who participated in illegal searches, kidnapping, torture, lying to congress, and politicizing science and the rule of law. In any case, the politicians will always represent the interests of those they depend on to get and keep office, and today our country's politicians represent a corporate fascist state.
Our job is to change the politicians' dependence from the corporations to the voters, from fascism to democracy, to get and keep political office in this country.
